- There is always a problem of knowing exactly what files are stored on
- a disk. Neither keeping a directory on a separate page in a notebook nor
- scribbling cryptic information on a small label is very handy. I have a
- method of using the printer to copy the directory information and any
- desired comments. The only requirements are the EPSON printer with
- Graftrax+ (to use superscripts) and a magnifying glass (to read the
- printed information). The resulting copy is just the right size to cut
- and slip into the diskette envelope.
-
- First, it is necessary to set the printer for condensed superscripts,
- with a spacing between lines of 18/216" (or 6/72"). This can be done very
- easily using the <ALT> key and numeric keypad. Be sure to hold down the
- <ALT> key and press each number until the complete number is entered. The
- procedure is as follows:
-
- You type: COPY CON: LPT1:
- <ALT>155 S <ALT>128 <CTRL>O <ALT>155 3 <ALT>18
- <CTRL>Z
-
- The printer is now set for very small printing. By typing <CTRL>
- PrtSc, the printer will keep a log for you of every command. Thus, you
- can type DIR/W and a wide directory will be listed. If you have a sorted
- directory program called SD, then typing SD will produce the output on the
- paper. Any time you wish to enter a comment before the directory listing
- (perhaps to describe an entire disk) just use .. THIS IS A COMMENT LINE
- starting in column 1.
-
- Remember to type <CTRL> PrtSc again to cancel the printing. To reset
- the printer to the power up state, type
-
- COPY CON: LPT1:
- <ALT>155 @
- <CTRL>Z
